The materials contained in this document reflect policy and program considerations as outlined in the Native Languages, 1987 curriculum guideline. Consequently, these units/lessons are organized according to themes addressed in that document: family, community, nature, communication, time, and recreation.
In addition, the expectations found in this curriculum guide reflect those found in The Ontario Curriculum 1997ÛÒ98. Subsequently, these units/lessons are integrated across the disciplines of language, social studies, mathematics, health and physical education, science and technology, and the arts.
The units/lessons in this document were developed from a series of video taped programs produced by the Ojibway and Cree Cultural Centre in 1992. The videos were developed for young children learning Oji-Cree, and were designed to keep interest and motivate a young child to want to learn the language. Oral reviews, repetitions and repeating after the host are enforced in each program to maximize learning.
The Ojibway and Cree Cultural Centre celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2006.
